Tampa Museum of Art Summer Camp

Tampa Museum of Art Summer Camp

This summer, I had the honor of being a teaching artist during the 2023 Tampa Museum of Art Summer Camp. During the Fiber Arts: Embroidery & Appliqué camp, students age 11-13 learned about embroidery and sewing techniques.

Students learned basic stitches and how to plan an embroidered piece from sketch to finished product. The class also learned how to create mixed media pieces utilizing their newly acquired embroidery knowledge. Each student created at least one piece combining materials like paint, marker and beads along with embroidered elements.

These students did a remarkable job. Watching them explore and experiment with their materials was truly inspiring. At the end of the course, the students showcased their progress and work in a student exhibit. Family, friends and museum attendees were encouraged to view the work and interact with the budding artists.
